This pretty quilt was made with care by a real grandma using the African American quilting traditions taught to me by the sewing elders at my church. It is handcrafted today with a vintage look of yesterday in homage to grandma’s quilting circle

Personalized Embroidery on the front of baby’s quilt. Using my newest equipment, the Bernina 570 Quilters Edition and Embroidery machine I can create beautiful 3D alphabet embroidered designs. You will be able to pick your favorite from among 7 fonts so that baby’s name can appear on the quilt front. Embroidery is an additional charge of $5.99.
MORE ABOUT BABY'S QUILT
The Dreamcatcher baby quilt shows that the bending of old and new can make a beautiful new creation. If you are the archivist of your family -- the person who organizes the family reunions, the keeper of the priceless photos of the family elders, the one who knows the family history, then you will recognize what this quilt symbolizes. Its design and quilting blends the past with the present. The traditional dreamcatcher imagery is surrounded by modern geometric grids and the quilting pattern echoes this blending with its modern vertical quilting lines surround by the more traditional meandering quilt pattern on the border. This lovely baby quilt features a beautiful rending of a dreamcatcher surrounded by pink floral blocks, echoing feathers block designs, coordinating blocks of pink, grey, aqua and beige geometric patterns, as well as pink floral designs. All are surrounded by a border fabric of tiny white flowers on a baby pink background.
The quilting frames each block while the dominant quilting pattern is modern vertical lines. The pink border features the more traditional meadering quilt pattern for a very pleasing mix.
Lastly this lovely quilt has a soft and strong quilt binding that is a pink as cotton candy fabric binding of 100% cotton ribbed fabric -- the same ribbed fabric that you'd find on a baby’s onesies.
Kali Quilts exclusive quiltmaking method
I start with 100% cotton fabric that is carefully hand cut and pieced using my custom Bernina Aurora 440 Quilters Edition sewing machine. The quilting is free motion which produces a uniquely wonderful blend of art, skill and accuracy. I supply the art using 17 years of skill while my Bernina Stitch Regulator assists me in achieving very consistent stitch length accuracy. This means no skipped or misshaped stitches which can comprise baby’s quilt construction.
The quilt binding is made of 100% cotton Lycra knit ribbing fabric which is the same soft and strong, all natural fabric that is used to finish the edges of baby onesies (neck, sleeves and bottoms). I first discovered this amazing fabric while using a Baby Lock Cover Stitch machine double fold binding attachment to sew the edging on my grandbaby’s handcrafted onesie. The double fold made the baby onesie edges as durable as it is soft. For the past 18 months I have been perfecting using this fabric as the binding for my baby quilts.
But before I apply this Kali Quilts exclusive binding method to our baby quilts, I first prep the quilt edges by Serging them using my Gemini Lock Pro Serger, this trims and seals the quilt edges. It also gives me the strongest edge possible for binding the quilt. I use Bernina’s largest double fold binding attachment for a very secure, durable and baby onesie soft edge to baby’s quilt. Lastly, I use a 20-step process to invisibly join the beginning and ending strips of the binding for a one seam joining so good that when finished I can’t distinguish it from the other seams.
Another Kali Quilts exclusive is the the construction of our baby quilts. We use 100% cotton fleece for the quilt back, this means the softest side of our quilt touches baby. I first experimented with this tradition busting innovation 18 months ago while creating a quilt for my first grandbaby. Now after unforgiving daily baby usage, over 70+ machine wash & drying, the fleece backing has no pilling, no shrinkage and no wear. It should perform well for your baby too.
